bMC are very pleased to welcome Mr Vivian Dsouza to the team.

Chief Engineer, Vivian Dsouza has wide shipboard engineering experience, sailing on different vessel types, primarily oil & chemical tankers. We are confident that Vivian’s skills and experience will help to further advance what bMC can offer to our clients, present and future.  Vivian will be based in India.

bMC’s Paul Winter and Alexandre Poirier were on site in the North Sea, off the German coast, to monitor the final stages of the removal of a general cargo ship. The operation presented complexities including tides and vessel traffic in a busy shipping lane. The two parts of the wreck and all debris was successfully recovered to the satisfaction of the concerned authority. A good job, well done. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved.

bMC’s Josue Ocasio, remained on site in Colombia to monitor wreck removal works of a deep-sea fishing vessel sunk within port limits. JC kept the client well informed on the progress and monitored the ongoing works of the contractor as well as providing on-going liaison with the Port authority.

bMC’s Marco Bertoli remained in attendance on the island of Sardinia, Italy where a motor yacht sunk following a fire on board. Marco was on site to coordinate a fuel removal operation, liaise with concerned authorities and assist in development of plans for eventual removal.

bMC Singapore made great progress and realised the end of a complex oil spill clean-up program at multiple sites around Singapore. The bMC team continued working with multiple parties to ensure the successful completion of a tailor-made vessel cleaning program for yachts and small craft.

bMC’s Heiko Förster was engaged by cargo interests to oversee and report on the transhipment of some high value transformers during loading from land to an inland cargo vessel in Germany.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to attend and survey following alleged damage to some steel coils in Southern Germany. Peter was requested to inspect and report on the nature and extent of damage.

bMC’s Loh Chee Seng was in attendance at the site of a capsized offshore vessel in the Zhoushan area, China. Wreck removal works were commenced and the team on site made good initial progress. A passing typhoon later in the month meant that the team and equipment had to temporarily demobilise from the wreck site.

bMC’s Navin Mehtani was back on site of a grounded general cargo vessel on the west coast of India, again at the request of the vessel’s P&I insurer. Navin monitored salvage works and reported developments to the client. The monsoon season started to abate in the area and the salvage contractor successfully refloated the vessel and towed it into deeper water.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan remained on site in Indonesia to monitor ongoing wreck removal works of a previously grounded tanker. The wreck is in the surf zone of an exposed shoreline and the conditions at the site have been an on-going challenge to the project.

bMC are pleased to welcome Captain Kaus Peer and Sasha Iqubal to their growing Singapore team.

With over two decades of ship command experience, Captain Kaus Peer brings massive expertise in vessel operations, particularly in gas tankers. The wealth of seagoing experience and particularly tanker experience that Kaus brings, is something that we are sure our clients will benefit from as bMC continues to scale its operations across southeast Asia and the Indian ocean. Kaus will be based in India.

We also warmly welcome Sasha Iqubal to the Singapore team. Sasha will be managing office operations in Singapore with a focus on accounting, invoicing and HR support. With a background in marketing and communications, including her role in the oil and gas industry, Sasha’s skills and experience will be a great benefit to the team.

bMC’s Marco Bertoli was mobilised to Sardinia to attend a yacht fire and subsequent sinking on behalf of the vessel’s P&I insurers. Marco was on site to assess the situation, coordinate a fuel removal operation and assist in determining next steps for the recovery of the yacht from a popular tourist location. Following removal of the fuel remaining on board by a specialist contractor, the bMC team were subsequently requested to assist with identification of a suitable wreck removal contractor.

bMC’s Capt. Rohit Mann was mobilized to Azerbaijan (yes you read correctly!) on behalf of P&I insurers for an anchor handling tug that had suffered a fire in the engine room and was partially sunk in the Caspian Sea. Rohit was on site to make an assessment of the condition of the vessel and together with Capt. Dennis Brand, give opinion to the P&I insurer in respect of the on-going salvage works as well as the next steps after refloating.  

bMC’s Josue Ocasio, from bMC’s Fort Lauderdale office, mobilised to Colombia to oversee the startup and initial phase of a wreck removal. A deep-sea fishing vessel of approximately 80 metres length, sank within port limits following a fire on board. bMC were previously requested by the P&I insurer to source a suitable wreck removal contractor. After some delays, partly due to the Panama Canal restrictions, the engaged contractor arrived on site to commence wreck removal works.

bMC Singapore remained particularly active providing oversight of an oil clean-up program at multiple sites around Singapore. The bMC team continued working with multiple parties to ensure the smooth running of a vessel cleaning program for yachts and small craft.

bMC’s Capt. Konstantin Boroffka and Paul Winter were on site in the North Sea off the German coast to monitor the removal of a general cargo ship lying in around 30 metres following an earlier collision. The weather conditions proved mostly favourable and progress of the wreck removal works was smooth.

bMC’s Maggie Xu and Loh Chee Seng were on site off Zhoushan, China area to oversee commencement and initial stages of wreck removal works of a capsized and sunk offshore vessel. Despite technical challenges and delays due to severe weather, including a passing typhoon, initial operations progressed well.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan remained on site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a grounded tanker. Though conditions were much improved, the sea conditions at the site remained an on-going challenge to the team. However, steady progress continued to be made during the month.

bMC’s Maggie Xu was urgently dispatched to Taiwan following the grounding of a container vessel pushed ashore following a period of severe weather experienced with the passing of a typhoon. Maggie was requested by the involved marine insurers to make an initial assessment of the situation and to start making arrangements for a fuel removal operation.

bMC’s Navin Mehtani was on site on the west coast of India at the request of the involved P&I insurer to monitor salvage works being rendered to a grounded general cargo vessel. Navin was requested to report on the ongoing activity. Simultaneously, Captain Dennis Brand provided opinion to the P&I Club in respect of the response and planning of refloat operations.

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar was engaged as the Special Casualty Representative (SCR) for a grounded general cargo vessel off the west coast of India. Captain Tesmar was relived from an ongoing project in Europe, allowing him to promptly proceed to Mumbai and onwards to the grounding site. Lars remained onsite throughout the period of service under Lloyds Open Form (LOF).

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to attend the joint survey of allegedly damaged dry cargo in north west Germany, following transport on board an inland cargo vessel. Peter was requested to assess the nature and extent of the damage as well as the approximate value of the damaged cargo.

bMC’s Captain Konstain Boroffka and Captain Lars Tesmar were on site in the North Sea off the German coast to monitor the recovery of a wreck sunk in October 2023. bMC were engaged by the responsible German Maritime authority to give technical advice on the removal process and oversee the works at the site.

bMC’s Heiko Förster was underway in southern Germany for two separate collision cases under the cover of one insurer. Heiko was asked to carry out surveys to two fixed objects in order to determine the nature and extent of the damage incurred as well as the likely costs for repair.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was on the road to attend a site on the river Rhine near Manheim where an inland vessel was allegedly in collision with a fixed object. Peter attended the site to conduct a survey of the alleged damage to assess the type and extent of damage as well as the likely repairs required and costs involved. Peter was requested to provide a written report to the liability insurers of the vessel.  

bMC Hamburg were requested by P&I interests to give support, opinion and advise in respect of a fishing vessel sunk off the Portuguese coast. Insurers and owners were planning to recover the vessel. bMC were asked review and give advice on the technical recovery plan.

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was requested by P&I insurers to review available information and planning and give opinion in respect of the planned salvage of a capsized barge in Norway.  

bMC’s James Swinburn was on site in Chile to monitor the final stages of wreck removal in remote part of the country. The removal progressed steadily throughout the winter period, in spite of some technical setbacks and periods of bad weather. Following completion, the site was surveyed and authorities requirements fully satisfied. Kudos and congratulations to the team on a good job well done.

The bMC Singapore team were kept busy in Singapore where they were arranging and providing on-going oversight of a clean-up program. Numerous vessels had been affected by oil staining following a significant pollution incident. The bMC team on site worked together with multiple parties to ensure the smooth running of the extensive vessel cleaning program. As an experienced spill response specialist, Alex Leonard of bMC UK, also remained on site in Singapore to give his expert assistance.

bMC’s Maggie Xu remained in attendance of a capsized offshore vessel in the Zhoushan area, China. Maggie was on site in monitor initial works for the planned wreck removal.

bMC’s Rohit Mann was in attendance at a remote wreck site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a tanker. Monsoon conditions continued to abate and the team on site made further progress on this difficult wreck removal.

June 2024

bMC’s Loh Chee Seng was engaged by P&I Insurers to attend on board a gas carrier which sustained damage during a collision with a towed object. The damaged vessel was taken to dry dock in Singapore where Loh attended to catalogue the damages and record ongoing repairs.  

bMC’s Heiko Förster was engaged by vessel owners to undertake an evaluation of onboard machinery with the intention of the Owner to extend the planned service life of the vessel. The Owner wished to determine which equipment would require replacement or modification in order to maintain reliability for a number of additional years’ service. Heiko attended on board the vessel in Poland to conduct an on-board assessment of the condition and status of all engine room machinery, before drafting a full report for the Owner.

bMC Singapore were engaged by underwriters of a tanker following a collision and oil spill incident in Singapore waters. bMC’s Adeline Goh and Loh Chee Seng were requested to make an evaluation of damages sustained in the incident. Subsequently, the bMC Singapore team were requested to coordinate the insurers efforts in respect of the cleanup for small craft affected by oil staining as a result of the incident. Having significant experience in oil pollution & cleanup, Alex Leonard of bMC UK travelled to Singapore, to assist the client and the bMC team with his specialist knowledge in the field.

bMC’s Heiko Förster and Alexandre Poirier attended the commencement survey and the fuel removal of a general cargo vessel sunk in the German bight. The fuel removal operation was successfully concluded on schedule to the satisfaction of the German authorities. A positive milestone was achieved by the team on site, conducting sub-sea operations in challenging conditions, to recover the remaining fuel oils.

bMC’s Maggie Xu and Loh Chee Seng were on site in the Zhoushan, China area to oversee the fuel removal from a capsized offshore vessel. Despite technical challenges, the removal operations progressed well and the fuel was successfully removed on schedule. Simultaneously, the bMC Singapore team prepared to source options for the client to engage a contractor for the recovery of the vessel.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan remained on site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a tanker. Monsoon conditions began to abate, giving the team improved workability. The wreck is in a remote and sensitive location.

bMC’s Dave Evans took up duties on site in Southern Chile monitoring the wreck removal of a concrete-built fish farm vessel in a remote location. Although some delays were incurred due to weather (not to mention the low temperatures), the team made good progress towards completion.

May 2024

bMC’s Hamburg office were engaged by lawyers representing a vessel operator, in a dispute regarding an offshore vessel. The bMC Hamburg team were requested analyse available information then give technical input and opinion in respect of the claim.

bMC’s James Swinburn was requested by a regular client to give advice and opinion in respect of the planned disposal of a vessel in South America following a casualty & salvage incident. The location of the vessel is remote meaning that logistics are challenging and options limited.

bMC’s Captain Rohit Mann was requested by P&I Insurers to attend site in Maldives to carry out a damage assessment following a collision between a barge and multiple vessels, as well as a jetty construction. Rohit attended the site to conduct a survey of vessels and jetty before reporting his findings to the client, including providing opinion in respect of the possible causation.

bMC’s Kieran Hopkins was requested by Average Adjusters to give opinion in respect of likely costs for towage of a vessel from the USA to China for a historical case. Based on experience of the tug charter market, Kieran gave advice to the adjuster on anticipated costs involved.

bMC’s Paul Winter was on site in Southern Chile to monitor the wreck removal of a grounded fish farm vessel at a remote location. Despite the onset of the Southern Ocean winter, the team commenced operations and got off to a good start.

bMC’s Maggie Xu and Capt. Ajay Prasad were requested by P&I Insurers to attend the site of a capsized offshore vessel in the Zhoushan area, China. Maggie and Ajay were requested to provide support to the Owner as well as monitor ongoing operations and give opinion on the likely required actions to recover the vessel.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan remained on site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a tanker. Monsoon conditions continued to provide a challenging working environment for the team on site. Nonetheless, progress continues. The wreck is also in a remote and sensitive location.

April 2024

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was engaged as salvage consultant by P&I interests for a yacht sunk in port in Portugal. The P&I insurer requested his attendance at the sinking site, in order to give guidance for minimising the pollution threat and to give advice in respect of removal prospects.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was requested by P&I interests to conduct an investigation on site in southern Germany following alleged contamination of a bulk liquid cargo on an inland tanker. Peter was requested to attend the vessel for sampling, investigate the potential cause and give opinion on the potential options for the cargo.   

bMC Singapore requested to carry out an investigation following alleged damage to a sub-marine cable in Malaysia. The P&I insurer requested the bMC Singapore team to gather available information in order to reconstruct vessel movements to then establish the involvement of the concerned vessel. The team were further requested to attend on board the vessel to carry out an investigation into the circumstances of the alleged incident.

bMC’s James Swinburn attended as SCR on site in the Black Sea for the ongoing salvage operation of a grounded and partially sunk general cargo vessel in laden condition. James continued with monitoring the salvage operation and reporting developments to all interested parties under an ongoing LOF/SCOPIC.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad and Maggie Xu attended the site of a wreck removal in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a tanker in a remote and sensitive location. The weather conditions have continued to challenge the whole team but works are progressing.

bMC’s Cargo interests again engaged Captain Peter Kurtenbach to oversee and report on the transhipment of some high value cable on drums during loading from land to an inland cargo vessel in Germany.

bMC’s Chief Engineer Heiko Förster was engaged as an expert witness by the German court system to give opinion relating to damage caused by a fire on board a vessel.

bMC’s Alex Leonard was engaged by P&I interests to provide on-site consultancy for a yacht wrecked on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Alex was requested to give guidance to the P&I Club in respect of engagement of a contractor to recover the wreck and bring it to a safe place for lifting out and subsequent disposal. The wreck site was exposed to the swell and with poor weather forecast, it was critical to remove the wreck swiftly & safely.  

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach carried out an investigation following a request from the P&I insurer to establish the nature and extent of damage as well as the likely cause, following a collision between an inland cruise vessel and a fixed object on a German inland waterway. Peter conducted an investigation based on the available electronic data.    

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar remained in attendance as the SCR for a general cargo vessel laden with cargo, sunk in the Black Sea. Lars remained on site to monitor the salvage operation and report developments to all interested parties.

bMC Singapore were requested by P&I interests to provide consultancy in respect of a wreck removal case in northern India. The bMC team were requested to source options for the removal, give advice on the proposals received and work with the client to engage the preferred contractor.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach conducted a survey following a request from the cargo insurance interests to monitor and report on the loading of heavy machinery system components from shore to water transport in western Germany.

bMC’s JC Ocasio was on site as the engaged salvage consultant for the wreck removal of a tug sunk on the river Parana in Paraguay. JC was on site for the recovery providing continued technical input to the selected contractor and Owner during the works.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad was engaged by Owners of a piece of dredging equipment that was lost and sunk in mud at an Indian port. Ajay was requested to give advice on the planned method of the contractor and work with the contractor to develop the recovery plan.

bMC’s Loh Chee Seng was in the Philippines to provide consultancy to the P&I insurers following an incident of partial sinking. Loh was on site to oversee the completion of works following the wreck removal of the general cargo vessel. The process included recovery and disposal of the cargo of bagged rice.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan remained on site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a tanker. The monsoon conditions have provided an even further challenging working environment for the team on site. The wreck is also in a remote and sensitive location.

February 2024

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was engaged by P&I interests for an inland cargo vessel with alleged water ingress and wetted cargo on central German waterway. Alexandre attended the vessel for an initial survey as well as follow up surveys until the situation was resolved.

bMC’s JC Ocasio was engaged by the insurers of a pusher tug operating on the River Parana. The tug sank during tug and barge operations and Owners were busy planning a recovery of the tug. The P&I Insurers wished JC be on site for the recovery to provide technical input to the selected contractor and Owner during the removal.

bMC’s Singapore were engaged by P&I interests to provide consultancy for a planned wreck removal of a cargo barge sunk in Gujarat, India. The bMC India team have been busy assessing the wreck, location and potential contractors as well as their methods to give the P&I Club advice on how best to proceed with the removal of the wreck.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was requested by P&I interests to attend on site in southern Germany following contamination to a bulk cargo on an inland cargo vessel. Peter was requested to monitor discharge operations, investigate the extent of the loss and give opinion on the likely cause.

Following the refloating, Paul remained on site to oversee and give guidance to the P&I Insurer in respect of the planned onward towage of the vessel.

bMC’s Chief Engineer, Heiko Förster, was engaged by Owners of a tug in the Netherlands to attend on board and provide a condition survey at the time of purchase.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan was on site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations of a tanker. The swell at the site has provided challenges throughout the operation. The wreck of a product tanker is also in a remote and sensitive location.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was requested by P&I interests to attend on site along the River Weser in Germany following an allegation of mould in a cargo of feed pellets on an inland cargo vessel. Peter was requested to investigate the nature of the damage and give opinion on the likely cause.

bMC’s Chief Engineer Heiko Förster was engaged by insurance interests following a machinery breakdown and damage to the main engine of a wind farm support vessel. Heiko was requested to investigate the circumstances and give opinion on the likely root cause.

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar was engaged by P&I Interests to give advice in respect of a plastic pollution incident in the Bay of Biscay. Lars was requested to give opinion on the potential recovery of the source of the pollution.

bMC’s Professor Doctor Roland Goertz was requested by transport insurance interests to review available information and give opinion in respect of a fire started at a tank container in Southern Germany during road transhipment.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad engaged by P&I interests to evaluate the available information on a collision case off Malaysia. Ajay was further requested provide a written report giving a summary of the events as well as opinion on the cause of the collision including an opinion on the split of liabilities.

bMC are proud to announce that bMC’s James Swinburn has been confirmed as a member of the Lloyds Special Casualty Representative Panel, effective from 1st January 2024. This is a very satisfying development indeed following a diverse career to date. James, who has been with bMC since 2021, previously worked for 3 global salvage companies, gaining significant and relevant experience at the sharp end.  Since joining bMC in late 2020, James has been engaged on numerous different projects around the world utilising his skills and knowledge. From Cargo insurer’s representative on a tanker salvage in the Indian Ocean through to P&I representative on a yacht grounding & sinking in the Mediterranean, James has been invaluable whatever the circumstances. At bMC, we were fully confident of James’ credentials to fulfil the role of an SCR. James himself commented “I’m honoured. I’m under no illusion that it can be a demanding role at times. The great benefit I have is the bank of knowledge that bMC have in the world of the SCR. So, I’m confident that I’ll have great support if ever needed. Now I’m really looking forward to getting an opportunity to be engaged as an SCR in the future”.

bMC’s Singapore were engaged by the P&I insurer of a general cargo vessel that grounded and partially sank in Philippines waters. Capt. Rohit Mann attended following the initial grounding to oversee pollution clean-up activities of the engaged contractor and give advice to the P&I Insurer. Ultimately the vessel was declared a constructive total loss (CTL) by hull and machinery interests, so it is then over to P&I cover to deal with any wreck removal. Having been on site since the early days, bMC have transitioned seamlessly to continue to give the P&I Insurer guidance in respect of the removal of the vessel as a wreck. bMC’s James Swinburn and Adeline Goh were on site during December whilst the pollution cleanup was finalised on site and wreck removal activities commenced.

bMC’s Professor Doctor Roland Goertz was requested by transport insurance interests to inspect a road trailer and the loaded cargo following a vehicle collision and subsequent fire affecting automobile parts in Southern Germany. Roland attended the site of the stored cargo to carry out a fire investigation with a view to determining the cause and extent of damage.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was requested by P&I Interests to investigate following a collision between an inland cruise vessel and an inland cargo vessel. The collision occurred on the River Rhein during an overtaking manoeuvre. Peter was requested to investigate the circumstances as well as nature and extend of damage and report his findings, including repair costs.    

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar was engaged by P&I insurers of a vessel which had lost a large gangway overboard whilst operating in a windfarm construction area in the English Channel. Lars was requested to assist the client giving advice in respect of plans for recovery of the gangway from a technically complex position.

bMC’s Cpatain Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to attend and carry out investigations following alleged damage caused by two inland cruise vessels to a walkway and pontoon in the Netherlands. Peter was requested to survey the damage, give an estimate for repairs and carry out a causation investigation to advise the Owners and insurers of his findings.

bMC’s Banarji Somathan was on site in Indonesia to oversee the continuing removal operations following an earlier grounding of a tanker. The wreck of a product tanker is in a remote and sensitive location.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was requested by cargo insurance interests to oversee and report on the transhipment of some high value heavy electrical system components from road transport to inland water transport in Germany. The transhipment and subsequent inland water transport went smoothly.

November 2023

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by Charterer’s P&I interests for an inland cargo vessel with alleged wetted cargo of organic seed. Peter attended the vessel for an initial survey as well as follow up surveys as the cargo was discharged. Peter kept the client informed on progress at the site and gave advice in respect of causation and anticipated costs.

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was engaged by the concerned authority in respect of the sinking of a general cargo vessel in German waters, following a collision with a bulk carrier. The authority concerned has engaged bMC to give opinion and advice in respect of the wreck and possible removal works.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad was on site on a remote island in the Indian Ocean to carry out a survey and inspection of a barge, laden with rock, which had previously partially sunk on the coast of the island. Ajay was there to get an up to date synopsis of the condition of the vessel on behalf of the involved P&I insurer.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interest for an inland cruise vessel which had been involved in a collision with a fixed object on the river Main in Germany. bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was engaged as the Special Casualty Representative (SCR) following the grounding of a roll-on roll-off ferry in the Baltic Sea. The Owner of the vessel engaged a salvage contractor under the terms of a Lloyds Standard Form of Salvage Agreement. SCOPIC was invoked, thereafter Dennis was engaged as the SCR and attended on site.

bMC’s Heiko Förster was engaged by a client to attend on board a vessel in Norway and carry out a condition survey ahead of a planned purchase. Heiko surveyed the vessel alongside before presenting Owners with his findings and opinion.

bMC’s James Swinburn was requested by P&I Insurers to give professional advice in respect of a planned wreck removal in Chile. James mobilised to the remote site to assess the wreck, meet with the interested parties and provide assistance to the P&I club for engagement of a suitable contractor for the wreck removal.

Peter was requested to attend onboard to assess and report causation, the extent of damage as well as provide an estimation on the likely repair costs.

The insurers of charterers liability for a vessel transporting metal from the UK to Germany engaged bMC to attend on board and report findings following shifting of cargo during the sea voyage. Captain Tim Meyer attended onboard the vessel in the German port before reporting his findings to the insurers.

Subsequently, brand MARINE CONSULTANTS were engaged to assess the casualty and draft a high-level planning document for the removal of the fuel.

bMC’s Professor Dr. Roland Goertz was engaged by cargo interests to conduct a fire investigation following fire damage to cargo on board a vehicle carrier in Northern Europe. The access onboard the vessel was particularly challenging given the fire damaged environment and required a high level of mitigation measures and personal protective equipment.

bMC’s James Swinburn was on site off the coast of India to oversee the wreck removal of a work barge sunk within an operating oilfield. After a lot of planning and a huge effort from the team on site, the wreck removal was finally completed before the onset of the monsoon season.

bMC’s Captain Peter Kurtenbach was requested by cargo insurers attend, monitor and report during the loading of some high value machinery near Duisburg, Germany. The insurer of the cargo was keen to ensure that there were no hiccups and wanted an experienced professional on hand.

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar was on site in Greece to monitor the recovery of a yacht which had earlier capsized and partially sunk in shallow water. Lars was on-site throughout the delicate and successful operation.

bMC’s Captain Rohit Mann was on site off the coast of India to oversee the closing stages of the wreck removal of a general cargo vessel sunk together with a cargo of steel. Despite some challenges for the team on site to overcome, the removal was concluded successfully.

bMC Singapore engaged by P&I interests to give advice and support following the sinking of a laden tanker off the coast of Taiwan. Captain Ajay Prasad and Ms Adeline Goh attended meetings with the authorities to represent the Vessel’s interests. Furthermore, bMC were requested to make arrangements to locate the sunken vessel. Subsequently bMC arranged for a survey of the vessel to ascertain the latest condition. The P&I Club also requested the assistance of bMC to issue and invitation to tender and evaluate any proposals for the removal of bunker fuels remaining on board the vessel.

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was engaged by P&I insurers as a special casualty representative (SCR) in relation to a container vessel with a fire on board that was subject to salvage service under a Lloyds Standard Form of salvage agreement (LOF). Capt. Brand mobilised to rendezvous with the salvage team. Sadly, after a number of days on fire, the vessel sank.

bMC’s Maggie Xu was engaged by P&I interests to attend the site of a laden barge following capsize off the southern coast of China. Maggie was requested to meet with the authorities in China to represent the P&I Insurer and Owners. Maggie was also requested to join the salvage team to monitor works to recover the barge and cargo.

bMC’s Germany were engaged by the P&I Insurer of a tug which sank in Greece. Peter Kurtenbach mobilised to the site to carry out a causation investigation. The team at bMC in Hamburg issued an invitation to tender for the recovery of the tug.

SEPTEMBER 2022

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was engaged by P&I Insurers to give opinion and advice with respect to wreck removal prospects following the capsize and sinking of a container vessel in Turkey. Capt. Brand mobilised to the site in Turkey to assess the situation and represent P&I insurers with the port authorities. The bMC Germany team were then requested to produce and circulate an invitation to tender for the wreck removal.  

bMC’s James Swinburn was engaged by P&I Insurers to attend the site of a capsized and partially sunk motor yacht. James was requested to provide profession feedback to the P&I Insurer in respect of salvage prospects and monitor ongoing works.

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar was engaged as the appointed special casualty representative (SCR) and mobilised to site for a casualty in the North Sea. The vessel had been involved in a collision and was listing after taking on water. The salvors were able to bring the vessel to a safe port and later redeliver to the Owner.  

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to attend and survey both vessels involved in a collision on the river Rhine near Duisburg, Germany. Peter conducted an investigation in to the cause of the collision as well as assessing and reporting on the extent and type of damages caused.

bMC Singapore were engaged by P&I insurers to give opinion and advice on fuel and wreck removal prospects following a casualty in Colombia. A fishing vessel suffered a fire and subsequently sank within sight of the port. Consultant Josue Ocacio from bMC U.S.A mobilised to Colombia to represent the P&I insurer and meet with the concerned authorities. The bMC Singapore team were requested to seek proposals for the fuel and wreck removal and give on-going advice during the subsequent process.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad was engaged by P&I interests to give advice and support relating to a grounded barge at a remote location in the Indian ocean. Capt. Prasad mobilised to meet with the local authorities to discuss the case and determine a workable approach to the planned recovery.  

bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar was appointed as special casualty representative (SCR) following a yacht fire off the coast of Spain. Capt. Tesmar promptly mobilised to the site with the salvage team.  

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad was engaged by P&I interests to give advice in respect of the wreck removal of a grounded tanker off the Indonesian coast. Capt. Prasad attended the site to meet with the authorities before conducting a survey the vessel and site to determine removal prospects. The client then instructed bMC Singapore to issue an invitation to tender for the wreck removal.

Rohit Mann was requested by P&I interests to attend the grounding site. Capt. Mann was requested to assess the site and the condition of the vessel before giving advice in respect of removal prospects.

bMC are pleased to announce the recruitment of Jacek Jażdżejewski to the bMC team. Jacek has been well known to the bMC team for a number of years having previously worked for a JV partner. The truth is that bMC have been interested to have Jacek on our team for a long while. Finally, the stars aligned for us and we have been able to get Jacek on the bMC team on a full time basis. Jacek has excellent Naval Architecture skills and a solid background of Ship Theory. We know that his skills and knowledge will be invaluable to our clients as we continue to develop the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering side of our business.

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was requested by P&I interests to attend and survey damages to a road bridge in northern Germany following collision by a vessel during a winter storm.

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand and Alexandre Poirier were engaged by state authorities to provide professional assistance following the grounding of a container vessel in German waters. Dennis was shore-side in the operations centre providing expert advice to the overseeing authority. Whilst Alexandre boarded the grounded vessel to monitor the salvage works. The vessel was safely re-floated with no damage to the environment and minimal damage to the vessel.  

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to give advice in respect of an alleged off-specification liquid gas cargo at a northern German port. bMC also attended joint sampling on behalf of the P&I insurer.

bMC were engaged by a salvage contractor to provide assistance with additional personnel for a salvage case in Mauritius involving 3 deep sea fishing vessels. The bMC team of Capt. Lars Tesmar, James Swinburn, Alexandre Poirier and David Evans mobilised to Mauritius at short notice to join the salvage team and add their expert knowledge.

bMC’s Giacomo Pison was on site in the south of France to oversee the wreck removal of a yacht which sank in 2021. The yacht was safely recovered in one piece before being transported for storage and subsequent disposal.

bMC’s Pascal Masmeier was on site in Mauritius on behalf of Owners and the P&I club involved to oversee the final stages of shore side operations following the successful conclusion of wreck removal operations.

bMC are pleased to announce the recruitment of Maggie Xu to the bMC Singapore team. Maggie has joined the Singapore team as a consultant following a period of 4 years with a Chinese salvage and wreck removal contractor. bMC had the pleasure of working closely with Maggie on previous projects, so when the opportunity came for Maggie to join the bMC Singapore team, Managing Director Ajay Prasad did not hesitate. bMC started a company in China in 2019, with Maggie being based in China, we now have an excellent opportunity to accelerate the growth there. At the same time bMC are pleased to welcome David Evans to the bMC team. Dave is joining bMC as an associate consultant. Based in Durban, South Africa, Dave has a huge depth of technical experience working at the sharp end of numerous salvage and wreck removal projects including the MSC NAPOLI, COSTA CONCORDIA and the RENA. bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was requested by legal representatives of a US based cargo insurer to attend the discharge and assembly site of a piece of highly sensitive scientific equipment in Western Germany following damage during transit. Peter was requested to attend the site to assess the damages and give opinion in respect of the costs involved and possible cause of the damage.

bMC’s Alex Leonard was engaged by P&I interests to provide advice and opinion in respect of a pollution clean-up project in Poland. The P&I Club required guidance and advice on the best approach for the clean-up works following an earlier pollution incident.

bMC were once again engaged by vessel owners and managers provide technical support during a period of dry docking of a vehicle carrier in Poland. Heiko Förster will be onsite at the shipyard for the duration of the dry dock works.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to attend the site of a collision for survey to damages. A road bridge over the river Rhine had sustained damage after cargo on a vessel struck the bridge structure during transit on the river.

bMC were engaged by P&I insurers to give advice and opinion in respect of a planned wreck removal of a catamaran yacht off the coast of Spain. bMC were requested to provide support throughout the process of contractor selection and project execution.

At the end of a very busy and logistically challenging year, bMC wish to give sincere thanks to the excellent efforts of the whole team. We appreciate that compared to other even other areas of the marine industry, we do have the relative luxury of a full workload. This has certainly been well received, but in 2021 particularly, our team went above and beyond on numerous occasions. Our work frequently entails travel to attend sites on behalf of our clients. That has certainly been challenging and with an added layer of complication in the year 2021. However, bMC always got our personnel to the site and safely home again. For that we are both proud and grateful. We are all looking forward to 2022 and hope that the global travel restrictions do finally begin to ease.

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was back on site in Poland together with Pascal Masmeier, to assist a ship owner for a period of dry docking and maintenance at a shipyard. The dry dock period was as busy as ever and could not have been achieved without the great cooperation of all parties. December weather in Poland certainly added to the complications! Nonetheless, the vessel re-entered service with only a minor delay to the schedule.

bMC’s Banarji Somanathan was engaged on the East Coast of India. Monitoring the wreck removal and dismantling of a dredger that had been grounded in an earlier storm and declared a total loss.

bMC’s James Swinburn was mobilised to the West Coast of India on behalf of the P&I Insurer to monitor the commencement of operations for the removal of the wreck of a sunken work barge following an earlier cyclone weather event.

bMC are very pleased to welcome Pascal Masmeier to the bMC GROUP. Pascal is joining bMC initially in Germany for training before he re-locates to Singapore early in 2022. Pascal will be a permanent presence in bMC Singapore and will assist with administration, systems & processes. Pascal has a background in metalwork with qualifications in welding. He has also worked for the last 2 years with SAP developing the processes of a manufacturing company in Germany. We are sure that Pascal has some useful skills and experience that will be of benefit to bMC and our clients.

bMC’s Giacomo Pison was in Singapore to attend and monitor the wreck removal of a sunken barge. Following to extensive and complex preparations, the wreck removal was successfully concluded in a matter of days using a sheerleg crane.

bMC’s Capt. Dennis Brand and James Swinburn were engaged by Owners & Managers of specialist cement carrying vessels to attend and investigate the loading procedures at a terminal in Spain. bMC were requested to give opinion and advice on potential improvements to the loading process.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to carry out a survey in Hamm, Germany where a bulk liquid cargo was allegedly found to be off-spec following discharge. Peter was requested to give information and opinion to the insurer in respect of the extent and nature of contamination as well as possible route cause.

bMC Germany were retained by the involved P&I insurer to give assistance and advice with respect to the planned wreck removal of a general cargo vessel sunk off the north West Coast of India. bMC prepared, issued and administered an Invitation to Tender before giving further opinion to the P&I insurer in respect of the most suitable wreck removal methodology.

bMC’s Capt. Ajay Prasad and Prabal Singh were engaged by P&I interests to assist with sourcing a contractor and overseeing the wreck removal of a capsized barge in Singapore waters

bMC were engaged by contractors to provide assistance and support following the grounding of a vessel in the Indian Ocean. The vessel was safely refloated approximately 10 days following the grounding incident.

bMC’s Kieran Hopkins and Marco Bertoli were engaged by P&I interests following a fire and subsequent sinking of a motor yacht in the Mediterranean. Initially bMC’s Marco Bertoli attended the site to give advice and assistance to the P&I Club and Owners. Subsequently, bMC have been engaged to assist sourcing a contractor for the wreck removal.

The bMC GROUP are very pleased to welcome a new member to the team! James Swinburn joined brand MARINE CONSULTANTS in December 2020.

Based in Spain, James brings a wealth of salvage knowledge technical expertise that will certainly be a great benefit to our clients.  James completed a commercial diving course in 2007 at WCCDS of Saldanha Bay, South Africa.

In early 2008 he started working as a Salvage Technician for Titan Salvage on the New Flame wreck removal in Gibraltar.

From Titan Salvage, he later transitioned to work for Ardent Global, before more recently working for Resolve Marine as Assistant Salvage Master. James has been involved in numerous wreck removal and emergency response cases during this period, gaining experience from both subsea and topside aspects of salvage projects.

We welcome James to the team.

On behalf of Owners and P&I Interests bMC’s Captain Lars Tesmar and Heiko Förster were in attendance at the site of a grounded bulk carrier in Mauritius. Lars and Heiko were tasked to monitor the salvage operations and provide expert guidance to the Owner and P&I.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad remained in Philippines to oversee salvage operations and clean-up works following a large-scale fuel spill in the Philippines. bMC’s spill response expert Alex Leonard as well as Adeline Goh & Josue Ocasio were working hard from their home offices, mostly under lockdown conditions, recording and evaluating the pollution and clean-up activities.

bMC’s Capt. Ajay Prasad was engaged by P&I insurance interests to act as their representative following a fuel spill in the Philippines. Subsequently bMC’s Spill Response expert Alex Leonard and Naval Architect Adeline Goh have been kept busy planning, evaluating and recording the pollution and clean-up activities.

bMC’s Heiko Förster was engaged by insurance interests to give professional advices in respect of an earlier dry dock towage and subsequent damage.

bMC’s C/E Heiko Förster travelled to the south of France to undertake a survey of the auxiliary engine of a container vessel after the engine was damaged. Heiko was requested to make and assessment of the damage and provide his professional opinion as to the root cause.

bMC’s C/E Heiko Förster had a shorter trip to the second machinery damage case in as many weeks. He travelled to a workshop in Bremerhaven to survey the damaged generator of a container vessel at a machinery repair workshop.

bMC’s C/E Heiko Förster is clearly in line for the award for busiest employee of the month. He was requested to travel to Greece in relation to removal of bunkers from a vehicle carrier in lay-up condition. Heiko was requested to put arrangements in place for the safe and proper disposal of bunkers from the vessel.

This month, the bMC GROUP has taken further steps forward, marking continued growth and development of the group and improving the offering to our valued clients. Firstly, the bMC GROUP has opened an office in the busy German port of Bremerhaven. This has long been a target for the bMC GROUP. Bremerhaven is an important location in the marine industry, so it was a logical next step for us. It has been requested by several clients and will certainly strengthen our offering and capability in Germany.

Secondly, brand MARINE CONSULTANTS are very pleased to announce our entry into the U.S.A. bMC have been fortunate to get Mr Josue (JC) Ocasio on board and thereby establish a presence in the state of Florida. bMC are very happy to have JC join, he will add a further resource and bring new and useful skills to the team. Being a native Spanish speaker, JC will undoubtedly bring benefit to our clients for any incidents in the Americas and Caribbean.

What a month it was, like so many other companies in the whole shipping industry, we’ve certainly had a little rollercoaster ride through March. Throughout the month things developed quickly on many of our ongoing projects. We are going through an unsettling and very strange period there is no doubt about it. bMC are fortunate to have solid leadership and a team that are familiar with working though very challenging and stressful scenarios. A huge thanks to the whole team and their families, for their calm focus on dealing with the things that we can control and diligent planning for the things that we can’t. We’re all looking forward to brighter times (and socialising in an “non-virtual” setting) but our focus remains on giving the highest possible level of service to our valued clients.

bMC were engaged by lawyers acting on behalf of their client relating to a case involving the work of a shipyard. bMC were requested to review documentary information and give professional opinion in relation to the construction.

bMC were requested by average adjusters to attend a vessel at the time of dry docking in Poland to assess damages following an earlier grounding incident.

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier replaced Giacomo Pison to attend the site of grounded general cargo vessel off the coast of Sardinia, Italy on behalf of P&I interests, overseeing the caretaking of the vessel.

bMC were engaged by P&I underwriters to attend the site of a workboat sunk in the port of Wilhelmshaven, Germany. bMC were appointed to investigate the damages and effects of the sinking.   

bMC’s Navin Methani replaced Alex Leonard in India to oversee the closing stages of the shore side element of a wreck removal project. bMC have been requested by P&I interests to oversee the whole process of disposal of the wreck and cargo after being landed ashore in India.

One of bMC’s French speakers, Alexandre Poirier, has been requested by insurance interests to evaluate available information and assist the client in respect of potential recovery following the sinking of a fishing vessel off the French coast.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged on behalf of freight forwarders to investigate the details of a shipment of medical material that was rejected by the receiver. Physical inspection of the goods was not possible and as such information was shared during an on-line meeting. 

bMC have been asked by cargo interests to investigate the details of a fire on a vehicle carrier and give professional advice.

February 2020

bMC’s Capt Dennis Brand and Peter Kurtenbach were engaged by the P&I Underwriter to attend an incident on inland waterways in France. The case involved a laden gas tanker which was structurally compromised following an incident transiting a lock. Subsequently Dennis was appointed as the Special Casualty Representative (SCR) and remained at the site throughout the complex lightering and salvage operation.  

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was on the road again, this time to Düsseldorf to undertake a survey of vegetable oil following alleged mishandling.

bMC’s Adeline Goh and Ajay Prasad oversaw the conclusion of offshore operations relating to a wreck removal off the east coast of India. Their demobilisation was the final part of a demanding project and a long period offshore. Adeline and Ajay both played key roles in ensuring that the offshore removal was safely and successfully completed well within the planned timeframe.

bMC’s Alex Leonard has been stationed ashore at a purpose assembled waste handling facility.  This facility has been designed and built to receive and process the waste and scrap metal recovered from the wreck removal offshore. Alex Leonard has been monitoring the processes onshore on behalf of the P&I Interests.

bMC’s Giacomo Pison has been in attendance of a grounded general cargo vessel off the coast of Sardinia, Italy. On behalf of P&I interests Giacomo is overseeing a caretaking operation and liaising with the authorities whilst a plan is finalised to remove the vessel.

bMC have been appointed by yacht insurers to investigate and report on the extent of damages sustained following a collision in the Mediterranean as well as give professional opinion in respect of likely repair costs.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by insurance interests of a freight forwarder following an allegation of damage to a dry powder food product during transportation. Peter was requested to conduct a survey and investigation as to the damage and possible root cause.

bMC’s Navin Mehtani has been working at the request of P&I interest overseeing the removal of a number of beached containers on the East coast of India.  Navin has been working with the selected contractor to ensure the complete removal and disposal of the containers. 

Following a successful project throughout a large part of 2019, bMC’s MD, Capt Dennis Brand was pleased to attend the office of our valued client in Tokyo, Japan during January. Dennis was honoured to give a presentation summarising the project as well as handover a bespoke gift in recognition of the excellent cooperation.

bMC’s Capt Lars Tesmar was appointed as Special Casualty Representative (SCR) following the grounding of a general cargo vessel off the coast of Sardinia, Italy. Lars mobilised just before Christmas and remained in attendance throughout the festive period

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged to conduct a survey of a dry dock at Rotterdam, the Netherlands and subsequently report on his findings.

bMC were requested by Hull and Machinery underwriters & Owners to conduct a survey and investigation of a Ro-Ro Cargo vessel that sustained main engine damage and was towed to Spain by a tug.

 

NOVEMBER 2019

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was appointed as Special Casualty Representative (SCR) following the grounding of a chemical tanker off the north coast of Spain. Dennis remained in attendance throughout the salvage efforts which ultimately resulted in the successful re-floating of the casualty. We offer our congratulations to all those involved.

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was engaged by adjusters to survey and report on extent of damages following the grounding of a general cargo vessel in the Mediterranean.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests to evaluate the available information and provide an expert report following an alleged hydrocarbon release during bunkering operations in Northern Germany.

bMC’s Capt. Ajay Prasad was engaged by P&I interests to monitor the spread and location of containers that fell from a container vessel in the Bay of Bengal. A number of containers beached on the east coast of India. On behalf of P&I Captain Prasad has since overseen a contractor to ensure the complete removal and disposal of the beached containers.  

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach kept busy attending a number of cargo surveys around Northern Germany following allegations relating to condition of the cargo following shipment. bMC have been appointed on behalf of the freight forwarding company or logistics provider.

bMC’s Adeline Goh and Navin Mehtani were engaged by insurance interests to attend the site of a general cargo vessel sunk in Singapore waters. On behalf of the insurer, Adeline and Navin oversaw the removal of the wreck and transit to a disposal site. 

bMC’s Giacomo Pison provided remote technical assistance and operational advice resulting in the swift and successful refloating of a general Cargo vessel aground off Sudan on behalf of H&M Insurers.


OCTOBER 2019

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand had the honour of delivering a presentation on the subject of Salvage Operations in unstable Jurisdictions at the World Maritime Conference in Shanghai. At the same time, Professor Dr Roland Görtz was invited by Gard Norway to give a presentation at a containership fire conference in Arendal. Roland discussed reactive Chemical Hazards in the cargo of containerships.

SEPTEMBER 2019

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was engaged by P&I interests of an inland cruise vessel which was involved in a collision on the river Rhine in Germany. bMC were tasked with assessing and reporting on the damage and possible causes.

bMC Singapore were engaged by P&I underwriters to attend and survey the involved vessels following a collision in Singapore Waters. bMC Singapore issued a report detailing the circumstances and the extent of damages to the P&I Underwriter.

bMC’s Captain Ajay Prasad was requested by a P&I Insurer to attend the location of a dredger which sank off the Indian coast. Ajay was tasked with gathering information relating to the sinking and giving advice in respect of required actions.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was on the road again! This time tasked to attend a general cargo vessel at Düsseldorf following allegations that a cargo of grain showed signs of presence of insects. Peter was asked to survey the cargo and report on the type & extent of any insects as well as the possible root cause.

bMC was requested to attend a vessel undergoing shipyard work in Northern Germany. Alexandre Poirier attended to investigate the circumstances and possible causes following injury to a crew member of the vessel.

bMC were engaged by cargo underwriters to attend and survey the loading of two items of project cargo at Hamburg. The pieces were scheduled for shipping to Korea.

bMC’s Peter Kurtenbach was appointed by P&I interests to attend a chemical tanker at a terminal on the River Rhine following an alleged contamination of the cargo. Peter was requested to survey the vessel and undertake investigations as to the cause.

AUGUST 2019

bMC Singapore was requested by insurance interests to attend the site of a sunk tug in Singapore waters. bMC assisted the Owner & underwriter to source a contractor and agree commercial terms for the recovery & disposal of the tug. bMC remained on-site for the duration of the recovery operation. Due to the location and the available equipment, the wreck was recovered in only a few days.

bMC’s Alex Leonard and Giacomo Pision remained in attendance in Egypt acting as Owners Representative and to give professional advices following a cargo shift involving a potentially dangerous cargo.

bMC’s Alexandre Poirier was engaged by P&I interests to give an expert opinion in respect of a general cargo vessel which sank alongside a berth on the River Weser, Germany.

bMC are pleased to announce a new member to the team. Alexandre Poirier has joined bMC from 1st August. As we continue to grow, bMC looks for a diverse range for skills and backgrounds to add to our offering. It is therefore exciting to have Alexandre to join the team as he brings some new and interesting knowledge that will give benefit to our clients. Alexandre is a qualified Naval Architect and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ship Technology and Ocean Engineering. He brings some new and different experience with him to contribute to the bMC knowledge base. As a naval architect primarily specialised in traditional vessels of all sizes, ages, propulsions and materials such as steamships or wooden sailing yachts Alexandre has spent the last years with the planning and realisation of several restauration projects. As a technical inspector he has worked for a large fleet of historical ships and has therefore experience in ship inspections. Welcome Alexandre! We look forward to working with you.

bMC is also exited to formally welcome Professor Doctor Roland Görtz to the team. bMC have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Roland for some years already. He is a recognised specialist in the field of fire investigation. bMC have been fortunate enough to work with him on a number of fire related ship and cargo casualties in recent years. Both sides agreed that it was high time Roland was formally a part of the bMC team. So, we made it happen! Welcome Roland!

bMC has also formalised another relationship with a respected professional. In recent months bMC have been fortunate to forge a close relationship with Professor Doctor Thorsten Kienast and his company Kienast Mental Health (KMH). Both bMC and KMH were keen to develop the relationship further and explore opportunities together for mutual benefit. As a result KMH have agreed to become part of the bMC GROUP. July has been a busy month for Peter Kurtenbach on the inland waterways of the BeNeLux region. Peter has attended a number of surveys relating to cargo damage claims. On each occasion Peter has been focused on giving prompt, clear and through information to the client.

Amongst the cargo damage claims, Peter was also engaged by the underwriters of an inland cruise vessel to carry out an investigation and analysis following a collision incident on the river Danube.

bMC’s Roland Görtz was engaged by insurance interests to carry out a fire investigation survey and report his findings, as well as his professional opinion in respect of causation, following a fire involving a trailer of a heavy goods vehicle loaded with machinery. The vehicle and cargo was in transit from Germany to Turkey when a fire broke out.

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was appointed by Owners and requested to travel immediately to Egypt in order to act as Owners Representative and to give professional advices following a cargo shift involving a potentially dangerous cargo.

bMC’s Giacomo Pison was back on site at Marmara Island, Turkey, on behalf of the P&I Club to oversee the successful wreck removal of a bulk carrier.

bMC Koblenz was requested to attend an inland water cruise vessel at a shipyard in Linz, Austria following a collision incident on the Danube river. bMC was requested to survey the damages caused and report on the extent and nature of damages.

bMC’s Heiko Förster was requested by Insurance interests to attend the site of a collision between an inland cruise vessel and a lock on the Donau canal. The client requested that bMC assess the damage as well as the root cause of the incident.  

bMC’s Capt. Dennis Brand was engaged by insurance interest to attend the site of a historical sailing vessel in German waters which had sunk subsequent to a collision incident. Initially appointed to survey the vessel and provide guidance to the insurer as to the most appropriate actions and anticipated costs, bMC were subsequently engaged to oversee the salvage and towage to a repair yard. For the salvage phase, bMC’s Capt. Lars Tesmar was in attendance.

bMC’s Heiko Foerster was engaged by P&I as well as H&M insurance interests to attend and survey a tanker in Mozambique port following a machinery breakdown. Heiko was requested to survey the damaged machinery and report on the loss, including route cause analysis. 

bMC’s Captain Dennis Brand was engaged by a logistics provider to analyse details of a transportation project and provide opinion as an expert witness on the process. 

bMC’s Heiko Foerster was engaged by insurance interests to analyse available documents and information before giving professional opinion in respect of damage to a crane boom on an offshore vessel operating in West Africa. 

bMC were requested by P&I interests to attend a warehouse in the Dortmund area where some steel products had been transported by river and were allegedly damaged by water. 

bMC’s Alex Leonard was engaged by P&I insurance interests to attend the capsize and subsequent loss of a vessel off the West African coast. Alex was required to gather pertinent information and details reporting same to P&I interests. At the same time bMC acted as representative of the P&I underwriter.

bMC feel very lucky to have secured the highly regarded and experienced Mark Hoddinott on to their ever growing team. It’s difficult to give a fitting title to such an experienced and knowledgeable individual but Mark will be joining bMC as a Senior Advisor. When it comes to Salvage and Wreck removal there is little that Mark doesn’t know and few people that don’t know Mark. bMC are therefore very pleased indeed to announce that Mark is now part of the bMC team.

As a response specialist and duty manager with Oil Spill Response Ltd Alex has spent the last eight years planning and training for, responding to and managing oil spill across the oil and gas and maritime sectors. As a technical advisor Alex has worked as a consultant embedded in the largest oil majors supporting crisis management teams in the development of emergency plans and designing and delivering response organisations from Africa to the Arctic.

bMC was engaged by insurance interests to survey an offshore vessel in Bremerhaven with bow thruster damages and to report on the likely causes of the damages found.

bMC Singapore were engaged to give professional advice to insurance interests in respect of repair options and likely costs following a collision between a tanker and a barge in Indonesian waters.

bMC staff were on site in the Azores over the summer months to oversee a wreck removal project on behalf of P&I interests. The project was successfully concluded and approval given by the relevant authorities in late July.

bMC is very happy to announce that Capt. Per Tyrsted Jorgensen has joined the bMC Team based in Singapore. We are excited by his arrival and looking forward to working with him. Per has significant experience in the marine industry, specifically in tanker management and business development which we certainly expect to be of benefit to bMC and consequently to our growing client base. 
Per started his career at sea in 1980 and completed his Master’s Examination at Copenhagen School of Navigation in 1989. He continued his career at sea on various type of vessels as 2nd officer to Master before commencing his shore based career in 2000. Since then Per has held several senior management positions, with the last being Vice President of Commercial Operations in a Chemical Tanker company involved with development of Company Strategy and Business Development. Per has vast experience in marine operations including Demurrage, Claims, Insurance, P&I, Bunker Procurement, Port Captaincy, Vessel inspections, Vetting as well as having been involved with Salvage and General Average.  
We welcome Per to our team. 
Per will take on the role of V.P. Operations and Strategy. At the same time, Kieran Hopkins will take on the role of V.P. Operations for our Hamburg office.

bMC is very pleased to announce that Capt. Lars Tesmar has joined the bMC Team based in Germany. We are all looking forward to working with Lars and we value the high level of marine experience that he brings. We are certain that Lars’ experience will be a great addition to our growing company and that it will serve to benefit our increasing client base.
After a technical apprenticeship in 1994 and experience as an engineer on offshore dredgers and barges Lars went on to study Nautical Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg/ Ostfriesland/ Wilhelmshaven from 2004, finishing with a degree as Dipl.-Ing and the Certificate of Competency for Watch Officer. Lars started as his bridge career as watch officer on large Anchor Handling Tugs gaining his unlimited Master Mariner license and Dynamic Positioning Operator licence. Inspired through the work with FPSOs and Oil Rigs Lars completed a Diploma in Marine Surveying, specializing in Mobile Offshore and Drilling Units (MODUs) by correspondence course as at Lancaster University. This course was followed by a job as Staff Surveyor in 2011, specialized in Towing and Salvage, at a leading claims management organisation. Following this, Lars joined Svitzer Salvage in 2014 later becoming Ardent, where he carried out several Salvage Projects as Salvage Master.

YuLing is a qualified Naval Architect and holds a Diploma in Marine & Offshore Technology from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore and a degree in Naval Architecture with Offshore Engineering from Newcastle (UK). She has broad experience in 3D and 2D modelling of ships and casualties. Prior joining bMC YuLing has worked as a Naval Architect and Consultant with LOC and several Shipyards and Marine companies in Singapore. YuLing has experience in ship inspections and collision investigations and is well versed with HSE requirements onboard vessels. We welcome YuLing in our team.

We are very pleased to welcome the experienced and professional team of Reinhard Jeske-Tiemann, Tim Meyer and Til Grüne to our growing family. Kieran completed a degree in Marine Technology and Maritime Law at the University of Plymouth, UK. Thereafter, he went on to work on the Technical Maintenance team for the British America's Cup Challenge in New Zealand 2002 – 2003. Following a number of years as a professional yachtsman, Kieran joined Samuel Stewart & Co as a Towage and Salvage Broker in 2007.

He recently concluded a tenure of 10 years with The Stewart Group / RS Platou / Clarksons Platou Offshore, where he was involved with a significant number of towage and salvage projects, gaining significant experience of commercial and contractual aspects.

bMC has taken over the leading German P&I correspondent PANDI SERVICES J. & K. Brons (PANDI). Thomas Kühl, the main shareholder behind PANDI SERVICES for many years, has transferred the business to brand MARINE CONSULTANTS GmbH (bMC) with effect as of 1st July 2017. The history of PANDI goes back to the year 1865 and already 1902 the company has been appointed to act as P&I Correspondent. The transition process is being led by bMC's CEO Capt. Peter Wölk. Peter Wölk has previously worked with PANDI for almost six years. bMC is glad to announce that the PANDI team will remain on board. Rolf-Jürgen Hermes who joined the company back in 1985 will continue as Managing Director. PANDI will continue as a separate and independent entity. But the cooperation with the bMC group of companies will offer PANDI direct access to wider technical and engineering expertise as well as to experts and surveyors which will increase our service capability. In addition, this acquisition increases the footprints of both companies. On the one hand bMC will have associated offices in Bremen, Wilhelmshaven and Rostock (beside the HQ in Hamburg). We are proud to announce that Captain Ajay Prasad of bMC Singapore, has been appointed as a member of the Lloyd’s Panel of Special Casualty Representatives.
Ajay joined bMC in June 2016 after a career at sea and ashore both in commercial shipping and salvage. Since starting up our Singapore Operation, Ajay has been instructed by various parties on no less than four salvage and wreck removal projects - most recently acting as a representative for underwriters on a fuel removal and subsequent ITT process for a wreck removal in China.
This appointment strengthens our ability to respond rapidly on a global scale and is a testament to our experience and in-depth knowledge of the SCOPIC clause; since 2014 bMC has had an SCR appointed on ten SCOPIC cases and numerous other high profile casualties.

As a member of the company’s management, he will shape strategic, operational and commercial business activities and initiatives for bMC around the world, as we successfully continue our exciting path of international expansion and growth.
Peter Wölk is a fully qualified German lawyer and member of the Hamburg bar association but also an engineer for maritime transport, who studied Nautical Sciences. Peter Wölk has gained considerable industry insight throughout his career. First nautical experiences he collected on board of the "GORCH FOCK" of the German Navy, later also on commercial vessels. Prior joining bMC, he has been for nearly five years the Claims Director of Hanseatic Underwriters, a leading fixed premium P&I and FD&D provider. Prior to this he gained deep experience in maritime law as well as large casualty handling while first working as a maritime lawyer in a law office followed by more than six years working for a leading P&I correspondent. That followed he worked as Senior Operations Manager and Legal Consultant for a major international Flag State Administration.
Apart from his office duties, Peter Wölk regularly acts as lecturer e.g. at the Bucerius Education GmbH and the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen. He also acts as an arbitrator at the German Maritime Arbitration Association (GMAA) and is a member of the German Association for International Maritime Law (DVIS) and the German Society of Travel Law (DGfR).
Peter Wölk’s core competences include the combination of legal and nautical expert knowledge, large casualty handling, process and organisational development, risk assessment and analysis.

Capt. Diekmann has gained considerable industry insight throughout his career. Prior joining bMC, he has been heading the Quality Assurance & HSSE department at E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH & Cie. KG, a leading bulk and container ship owner and manager. Capt. Diekmann also has extensive sailing experience, having worked for major ship owners and managers such as NSB, Hapag-Lloyd and Peter Döhle.

After having completed his apprenticeship as ship mechanic, Capt. Diekmann studied Nautical Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, leading to his qualification as an industrial engineer and master mariner. In addition, he completed a two year’s full study master program in business psychology.

Capt. Diekmann’s core competences include process and organisational development, risk assessment and analysis, auditing and quality management. We welcome Claas-Heye Diekmann to our team.
